From the Chairman
We will conduct our final panel at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) this December 11th and move to a new location. Of course, that new venue will be announced here. The first new panel will happen towards the end of January in that new space. In 33 years, ATOA has been hosted in more than a dozen homes. Naturally, we wish to thank SVA for years of generosity in hosting us in their amphitheater and providing excellent audio-visual help along the way. We welcomed the attendance of students and faculty and the interest of graduates. Some of our panelists were SVA professors. We particularly thank SVA's continuing education department and its head, Joe Cipri for their great help. And, Rob Barton and his crack A-V crew. 2009 has been a trying time for many people in the art world. In this year, many galleries have closed, many programs have been suspended and smaller not-for-profits like ATOA lived by their wits. We did. But, happily we've survived and look forward to a new semester in a new venue. Thank you, too, for your continued interest and support. Stay tuned. Doug Sheer |
Did you know that ATOA has over 30 years of art discussions documented on tape? This tremendous archive of contemporary art history will surely help future historians - if it survives! However this archive is recorded on magnetic tapes which desperately need to be preserved.
