Mimi Smith will present a first hand account of how she went about organizing her own works for her estate.
Herb Nass will cover issues he has seen in the wills and estates of artists that have been probated and address salient
issues to be considered when artists create testamentary or trust dispositions. Amy Schichtel will address the function of a foundation in protecting the rights and legacy of artworks.

ATOA President Mimi Smith, an early pioneer in clothing, feminist, and installation art began making sculpture in the form of clothing in 1965 not as garments to be worn but as sculpture, installations and visual objects. Over the years her art has continued to examine clothing as both form and subject, while also exploring other themes and using other media from life size paper and knotted thread and tape measure drawing installations, to works related to television and sound, computers, books and clocks. She has exhibited throughout the United States and internationally in exhibitions including the retrospective ‘Steel Wool Politics’ at the ICA Philadelphia, ‘WACK! Art and the Feminist Revolution at LA MOCA, and ‘Addressing the Century, 100 Years of Art and Fashion’ at the Haywood Gallery, London, and is represented by the Anna Kustera Gallery in NYC. Selected public collections include MOMA, the Fog Museum, the RISD Museum, the Newark Museum, and the Spencer Museum. Brief Bio of Herb Nass, Esq. As an author and lecturer on the topics of celebrity Wills and estate planning, Herbert E. Nass frequently appears on television talk shows and news reports, including “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, “Larry King Live,” “Entertainment Tonight,” “The Insider,” “The Early Show,” “Today in New York,” “The O’Reilly Factor,” and Court TV, CNNfn and Fox News. In addition, Mr. Nass has lectured at the 92nd Street Y and the Harvard Club in New York City, and to numerous groups across the United States. Formerly associated with the New York law firms of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison and Tenzer, Greenblatt, Mr. Nass now manages his own law firm with offices located in New York City, Harrison, New York and Norwalk, Connecticut.
