From the Chairman
Dear Friends of ATOA, Artists Talk On Art continues to reach out to audiences and amaze its board by its very existence, some 38 years on from its original founding in 1975. In those intervening years there have been over 6,000 artists, art writers, curators, gallery owners, critics and other art world luminaries who have appeared in its over 1,300 events. We are rightly proud of that achievement and yet remain just as dedicated to presenting interesting panels and dialogues as ever. And, as I like to say when asked about this, that we are just as proud of presenting total unknowns as we are that we have presented so many 'art stars' along the way. Today, what sustains the series is as much social media and new technologies as traditional acts of seeking grass roots ideas, organizing them and presenting them, as we continue to do. And, as needed, moving to new venues, as in our move this fall to the New York Law School in Tribeca, our newest host. At the same time that we continue to present the panels and dialogs, we also continue to work towards preserving the legacy of all those previous years of presentations and their recordings ~ representing the 'oral history' ~ and papers by organizing and securing the archive that we simultaneously collected. Those two activities, side-by-side, remain the missions we care about. Yours, Doug Sheer Prior Season Executive Letters |
