ABOUT
Artists Talk on Art
(ATOA)

The mission of Artists Talk on Art (ATOA) is to provide a forum for critical discussions in the visual arts. After 28 years we are one of the longest running art discussions. We depend upon artists who are willing to talk about their work, and volunteer their time. ATOA is a not-for-profit corporation run by artists.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR THE PROGRAM COMMITTEE

This group is the heart of ATOA and the place where all our ideas generate. It functions as well as a support group for the artists who come on a regular basis and a great place to network. Newcomers are particularly welcome.

To get the most out of ATOA, come to a Program meeting.
Call (212) 779-9250 for details of the next meeting.

Health Insurance

GROUP HEALTH plan available to passholders.

ATOA Expands Insurance Program for Artists and Families This year (2003) ATOA, in cooperation with its insurance agency, RBA Insurance Strategies, Inc. is proud to augment the health care coverage it offers with two new and important types of policies for artists and their families: a Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan and a Long Term Care Insurance Plan.

Many of our pass-holders enjoy the protection and peace of mind that their participation in the ATOA sponsored healthcare group plan affords them. We are proud of our continuing sponsorship and support of that effort. To qualify for the medical/hospital group insurance plan, simply become an ATOA annual pass-holder.

But now, with so many of our pass-holders, and their spouses and their peers approaching or exceeding the traditional retirement age, we have felt that a need was developing that required our help. Now, for the first time, with two new policies offered by RBA, through ATOA, you can add more protection to that of your medical coverage. Even if you get your medical coverage elsewhere you may still find these two types of insurance interesting and useful.

Medicare Supplemental Insurance: Needless to say, Medicare does not cover everything medical that can confront you in your retirement years. That is why insurance companies have been offering supplemental coverage to fill the gaps. RBA offers up to ten plans underwritten by AUSA Life Insurance Company, Inc. — Group (NY) that are tailored to meet different levels of need. Each is different in terms of the package of care provided. We suggest that you discuss your own situation with an RBA representative to see which package will fit your needs best. But, among the various aspects are skilled nursing help, foreign travel coverage, hospital or hospice care, at-home recovery, and basic or extended prescription drug coverage.

Long Term Care Insurance: Probably the most distressing aspect of aging is the prospect of a long lasting illness or disability that can wipe out your savings and put stress on the rest of your family. To the end of eliminating that disaster, insurance companies have begun to offer comprehensive packages of long term care insurance designed to safeguard your finances and to provide care and coverage not found under Medicare or Medicare supplemental insurance policies whose primary mission is to cover medical or hospital costs. Long-term care insurance focuses instead on the possibility of a protracted but not fatal disease or condition that might require either a nursing home stay or similar at-home re-cooperation, whose non-medical expenses do not normally fall within the coverage of Medicare or supplemental policies. In other words, if you become disabled (even before retirement) and must be home bound for a few years, you can hire a home health aide or similar helpers and be reimbursed, and therefore not deplete your savings. Such a policy also offers savings on eyeglasses, drugs and hearing aids. With nursing homes costing an average of $40,000 to $80,000 a year and comparable home care running to $12,000 a year or more, you might want to consider a plan for long-term care. 72% of Americans who pay a year or more of long-term care (without such an insurance policy) become impoverished as a result. RBA offers a thoughtful plan under First Unum Life Insurance Company. Consult them for details of costs, coverage and limitations. A typical benefit duration under Unum is three years, but there are a variety of options for you to consider.
