Norma Greenwood

Norma Greenwood is an artist and an ATOA board member who has appeared on, as well as organized, many ATOA panels. When not on panels herself, she is often seen volunteering as the ATOA video camera operator. Below are paintings from her, "Interior Landscape Series."

DOMESTIC SCENE II
30 X 30, oil on canvas

"I have always perceived the world through tactile experience and physical objects, I sense that the things that surround me exert a strong and palpable energy. The language of painting allows me to communicate this experience and transform objects into an asthetic statement."

DAYBREAK, 20 X 20, oil on canvas

"As a painter, my inspiration often comes from the way I see the world through the lens. My photographs are distilled through the painting process and the painting becomes a means for pushing the boundary between abstraction and figurative expression."

EARLY MORNING
36 X 36, oil on canvas

"I suppose I was born into painting. My grandfather’s paint store in Brooklyn was my favorite place to play; Shiny paint cans, tubes of color and the smell of linseed oil permeating the store were imprinted on me at a very early age."

"Art has always defined my life. I have a graduate degree from Hunter College, New York where I had the good fortune to study with masters such as Robert Motherwell and William Baziotes."

MAPPING
30 X 30, oil on canvas

LANDSCAPE, 8 X 10, oil on linen

"Recently, I received grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, a fellowship from the National Academy of Art Museum, a George Sugarman (2007), a Ludwig Vogelstein (2008) and the Queens Council on the Arts Individual Artists Initiative Award in 2009. I was also recently commissioned by the Jacksonville, Fl. Airport Authority to create two large mosaic tile murals titled: Cloudscapes. Cloudscapes is permanently installed in Jacksonville International airport."
